When you’re leading a team, it can be challenging to maintain morale. Even when you come into work on top of the world and the day is running smoothly, you might be met with animosity or negativity from your staff. Sol Operation Solutions is here to help you remain in control of the dynamics in your office!
Most importantly, remember morale trickles down. You as a leader set the tone for the mood of the office every single day. If you remain positive and calm, you help your staff do the same! Be sure to separate yourself from your staff in a moment of high stress or if you are feeling too overwhelmed to hide it. You don’t want your staff to see you defeated after a hard case or long morning and then follow your lead!
Your patients can sense animosity amongst your staff. I have a daily meeting with my team to make sure everyone understands what their daily expectations are, and to remind everyone of our mission and the role that they play in helping us to achieve that! Making sure your staff understands why you need them to complete their tasks in a timely manner helps to empower them to take pride in their work and deliver results!
You can foster a supportive and nurturing environment in your office by maintaining an open door policy. Encourage your staff to come to you with concerns, questions, or conflicts and you will notice a shift in how they interact with you. They will start to feel heard and understood, even if you do not always take action on every complaint they raise. Sometimes your staff just wants to know they can talk to you and not feel guilty for raising concerns to your attention.
Address any office bullies or conflict immediately. Do not let problems in the office boil over so to speak. You can often times come to a compromise with two disgruntled employees who are in a conflict, just by bringing everyone in the same room and talking about the problem. This also will teach your staff that you support them equally and want to see them resolve their problems. They will feel more empowered to address these things on their own time, eventually without involving you, with enough practice!
Consider quarterly team building activities to help your staff maintain their bonds and family dynamic! SOS is here to help you plan and organize these events! Some suggestions in the mean time:
Dave and busters/adult arcades
Top golf/mini golf
A simple dinner or happy hour
Escape rooms
Bowling
Paint nights
